There are many different reasons that a person may need to call an electrician. Some people are unsure when they should call an electrician or if their worry warrants a call to a trusted electrician. When it comes to electrics you can never be too careful, so here are some reasons that you should call an electrician.

Noticing Trips and Blown Fuses
If you notice constant trips in the electrics or fuses are that frequently getting blown out, then it’s definitely time to call an electrician. This is a sign of a major underlying fault in the system, which will need to be fixed by a trained professional. Not seeking professional help for this can lead to the system drawing in more of a current than it can provide.

Flickering Lights
Flickering lights can also be an indication of a serious problem with your electrics. If your lights flicker sometimes due to adverse weather conditions or it only happens once in a while, then you most likely won’t need to call an electrician. Flickering lights can also occur when the blub needs changed so we always recommend changing the bulb first to be sure. If you’ve changed the bulb and the lights still flicker unexpectedly or frequently, then this may be the sign of an issue with the electrics or could be an indication that you’re using too many appliances at once.

Switches and Electrical Systems That Have Hot Surfaces
If you notice that any of your switches, power points or other electrical system surfaces are too warm to the touch, then this may be an indication that you need to contact a professional electrician. In some cases, these surfaces will also give you an electric shock, which may mean that whatever is plugged in is demanding too much from the circuit. This should be dealt with as soon as possible to help avoid any accidents or injuries.

Power Points Without Three Prong Grounded Plug Space
If you notice that your home has sockets that only have 2 prongs instead of 3, it could mean that the electrics in your home are unsafe. An electrician will be required to ground the electricity coming into your house in order to make it much safer. The UK has one of the most advanced electric systems in the world, so make the most of it.

Overloaded Power Points
If you have any power points or power boards are overloaded with too many plugs, this may be a sign of excessive pressure on the electrical system. This could be extremely unsafe and an electrician should be called to reduce the load on single points, which will help you reduce the risk of electric shocks and short circuits.
If you can do without having so many plugs at one power point, then you can and should do this yourself. However, if the issue is that you have a shortage of sockets in your home, then an electrician can be called out to fit additional sockets.
