As a homeowner, it can be very stressful when one of your household appliances stops working. If it is your boiler then the worry is often very great as it controls all of your hot water and heating-things we use daily. If you are having problems with your boiler then see if they are on our list here. We have listed three of the top boiler problems. We have also suggested some of the ideal ways you can try to remedy these problems before calling a professional. If you are ever unsure or uncomfortable carrying out work on your boiler then call a professional immediately. Always consult the manual before doing anything.

Read on and find out how to fix the top three boiler problems.

Strange Noises Coming From Your Boiler

One of the main things that people have problems with is strange noises coming from their boiler. These noises often come under one of two categories. The noises are usually either a whistling sound called ‘kettling’ or a loud gurgling sound.

Kettling is often because of trapped air and the solution would be to bleed your radiators before seeking help.

The gurgling noises often mean that there is a pipe frozen somewhere in your house. All you need to do is pour some warm water over the pipe until you feel the ice would have shifted. If this doesn’t help then call someone.

Pilot Light Has Gone Out

If the pilot light has gone out, this means there is either a fault with the gas supply in your home, or it has been a victim of an especially strong draught. The first thing to do is to check your other gas-based appliances like your hobs.

After that you can attempt to relight the pilot light. This is quite difficult but there are many tutorials online. If you don’t want to risk it, then call in a professional.

Radiators Not Heating Up Properly

If your radiators are not heating up properly at all, or are heating up but are left with cold patches, then there is obviously a problem. This is usually caused by trapped air, sludge or rust.

All you have to do in order to fix this problem is to bleed your radiators. This is a very easy task and should not need the help of any professionals. Again, if you struggle then try looking online for guidance.
